Katerina Bouriti

With a deep interest in the emotional and psychological development of children and adolescents, Katerina Bouriti chose to study Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. From an early stage, she sought out experiences that helped her see people within the context of their relationships and understand difficulties not simply as “problems,” but as signs that call for understanding and connection.

She has completed postgraduate training programs in “Promoting Mental Health in Children and Adolescents” and “Special Education in the School Environment” at the University of West Attica. She has also completed the annual “Panagiotis Oulis” Seminar in Clinical Psychopathology, organized by the First Department of Psychiatry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the University Mental Health Research Institute (EPIPSY). In 2024, she obtained a teaching qualification through ASPAITE’s EPPAIK program.

During her clinical placement at the Smart CNS Center, a specialist psychiatric and neurological center, she gained exposure to elements of cognitive behavioral and systemic therapy, as well as rTMS treatment and the principles of psychopharmacology.

A significant part of her professional experience was her volunteer work as a psychologist in the Child Psychiatry Department of Tzaneio General Hospital. There, through her daily work with children experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties and with their families, she deepened her understanding of the systemic perspective—one that looks beyond the individual to the dynamics of the wider context, rather than seeking to identify a “cause” or someone to blame. She was actively involved in taking psychosocial histories, developing genograms, administering psychometric assessments, and supporting children throughout their hospitalization and transition back to school.

She has also volunteered with adolescents with intellectual disabilities, using Animal-Assisted Therapy in collaboration with Pet Partners of Hellas.

Since 2024, she has been training in the Systemic Approach at the Athenian Institute of Anthropos (AIA), with a focus on understanding each person as unique while also taking into account the relationships and wider context that shape their experience, in order to offer more comprehensive and meaningful support.
